A Lesson from My 6 Week Old Grandson

As I watched my grandson—just six weeks old, this past weekend, I realized that he is completely unaware of the monumental milestones ahead of him. One day, he’ll learn to roll over, sit up, crawl, and eventually take his first wobbly steps. He won’t question if  he can do it or worry about how long it will take. He’ll just keep trying until one day, without even realizing it, he’s walking.

And it made me think—when do we lose that determination?

As babies, we don’t overthink the process. We don’t stop trying because we fell too many times or because it’s ‘taking too long.’ But somewhere along the way, we start to doubt. We hit roadblocks, take detours, and sometimes, we let frustration win. We tell ourselves it’s too hard, or maybe it just wasn’t meant for us.

I’ve been there. I’ve questioned myself. I’ve faced moments where I wondered if I should just stop trying. But every time I pushed forward—whether it was a pivot, a new direction, or simply choosing to keep going—I found a way through.

And isn’t that what growth is all about?

So here’s what I’m reminding myself today:

Push forward.

Adjust when needed.

But don’t quit.

Success doesn’t always happen on the first try, or even the tenth. But just like my grandson will one day take those first steps, we can move forward too—one step at a time, until what once felt impossible becomes second nature.

What’s one thing you’re ready to push forward on?

Comment, I'd love to hear what you are pushing forward on!
