Breaking Free from Indecision: The Power of a Decision

Have you ever felt paralyzed by indecision? That sinking feeling when you’re stuck in limbo, unable to move forward because you’re afraid of making the wrong choice?

You’re not alone.

Indecision is a silent thief of confidence and momentum, holding us back from achieving our goals and living the life we desire.

Over the past few months, I’ve found myself in that very space—teetering on the edge of decisions, but not fully committing. After selling my salon, a business that defined so much of who I was for decades, I’ve struggled to rediscover my identity and determine my next steps. I felt lost, unsure if my next move would be the “right” one. And so, I hesitated, putting off decisions and staying in my comfort zone. But deep down, I knew staying there wasn’t truly comfortable—it was just familiar.

How Indecision Holds Us Back

When we fail to make decisions, we’re not standing still—we’re actively holding ourselves back. Indecision creates mental clutter, leaving little room for creativity, focus, and growth. It’s like carrying around a backpack full of unmade choices; each weighs you down a little more until it feels impossible to move.

And here’s the kicker: There’s no “right” or “wrong” decision. Any decision is better than no decision because it propels us forward. We learn, grow, and adapt through action, not inaction. Even a misstep can be a step in the right direction if it teaches us something valuable.

My Turning Point

One day, I realized how much time I was wasting rather than doing something, ANYTHING! I decided to start small, choosing one area of my life where I could take immediate action: my daily routine. I committed to a consistent morning ritual—quiet time with God, a gratitude journal, a workout, and preparing breakfast. These small but intentional decisions gave me a sense of accomplishment and control. From there, I started to tackle bigger choices, like accepting a new job and defining my goals for Beautifully Confident and my beauty consulting business.

Making these decisions wasn’t easy, but once I committed, the mental fog began to lift. I felt a renewed sense of clarity and purpose. The simple act of choosing—even imperfectly—freed up my energy to focus on the future.

The Freedom of Moving Forward

Here’s what I learned: The power of decision lies in its ability to create momentum. When we decide, we tell our brain, “It’s time to move forward.” That momentum builds confidence, making it easier to take the next step and the one after that.

If you’re feeling stuck, I encourage you to start small. Choose one thing (not 10, just one!) you’ve been putting off—whether it’s a phone call, a commitment, or a change in routine—and just decide. Don’t overthink it. Remember, the beauty of life is that most decisions aren’t permanent. If something doesn’t work out, you can pivot and try again.

Questions to Reflect On:

  1. What decisions have you been putting off, and why?

  2. How would your life change if you committed to making one of those decisions today?

  3. What’s the worst that could happen if you make the “wrong” choice? How could you recover and learn from it?

A Challenge for You

This week, I challenge you to identify one area of your life where indecision has been holding you back. Write down the options, set a deadline, and commit to a choice. Trust that whatever you decide, you’re moving closer to the confident, empowered version of yourself that you deserve to be.

Life rewards action, not perfection. The sooner you decide, the sooner you can step into the life you’ve been waiting for.

Let’s take that first step together—because when you choose to decide, you choose to grow.
